The Mercy Studio vs a Hotel Room: What You Get for ₦75,000 a Night
29 August 2026 · 5 min read
If you’re planning a stay in Abuja and comparing options at around ₦75,000 a night, you’re right in the sweet spot where two very different kinds of stay overlap: a mid‑range Abuja business hotel, and a serviced shortlet apartment. Both are perfectly good. They give you quite different things.
This isn’t a “hotels bad, we good” post. Hotels are the right answer for plenty of trips. But the price is the same, so it’s worth being clear on what you’re actually choosing between.
What ₦75,000 a night gets you at an Abuja hotel
At this price point you’re looking at a standard room in a mid‑tier hotel around Wuse 2, the Central Area, or the edge of Maitama. Usually you get:
- A bedroom with a private bathroom.
- A kettle, sometimes a small fridge; almost never a real kitchen.
- Breakfast, sometimes — check whether it’s included or ₦5,000 extra.
- 24‑hour front desk. Someone at reception if you lose a key at 2 AM.
- Room service, if the hotel is big enough. Restaurant on‑site, usually.
- Housekeeping every day.
- Fifteen to twenty square metres of space, more or less.
What you don’t get, usually, is a lot of quiet. Business hotels are busy buildings — lobby traffic, corridor noise, generators cycling in the small hours. Rooms are functional rather than restful; the design has to work for every kind of guest, which means it works especially well for none of them.
What ₦75,000 a night gets you at The Mercy Studio
For the same money, you get the whole studio. That means:
- A one‑bedroom apartment — living space, sleeping space, bathroom, and a proper kitchenette, all yours for the stay.
- The kitchenette is fully equipped: kettle, French press, cooking gas, microwave, mini fridge, dishwashing supplies, basic seasoning. Cook a proper meal, make your own coffee at 6 AM without waiting for room service to open.
- Fast Wi‑Fi, smart TV pre‑loaded with streaming apps, ceiling fan and AC, hot water throughout the day.
- A washer‑dryer in the unit — worth its weight in gold if you’re staying more than three nights.
- 24‑hour electricity via inverter. You won’t notice an outage.
- Our caretaker Sunday is on‑site for the small things — directions, fresh towels, anything that comes up.
- Merci Luxury Apartments has 24/7 gated security.
- A quiet, tree‑lined residential street in Mabushi. Ten minutes to Wuse 2, twelve to Maitama, eight to Jabi Lake Mall.
What you don’t get: a lobby, a concierge, or someone at a desk at 2 AM. Everything is self check‑in. If you like the ritual of a check‑in counter and a bellhop, a hotel is the better call.
When a hotel is the right answer
Book a hotel if:
- You’re in Abuja for one or two nights of pure business travel. The lobby, the front desk, and the “just charge it to the room” convenience are worth paying for when you’re back‑to‑back in meetings.
- It’s your first time in Abuja and you want familiarity. The IHG or Marriott experience is the same anywhere in the world; there’s real comfort in that.
- You want daily housekeeping. Our cleans happen between guests, not during your stay.
- You’ll never open the kitchen. If you know you’ll eat out every meal, a kitchenette is wasted on you.
When The Mercy Studio is the right answer
Book us if:
- You’re staying three or more nights. The whole calculus shifts — space and a kitchen matter more than daily maid service.
- You want to cook. Even one home‑cooked breakfast pays for the kitchenette in convenience.
- You want quiet. Mabushi is a residential district. You’ll sleep better here than in the middle of Wuse.
- You’re working remotely from Abuja for a stretch. A living room, fast Wi‑Fi, and a coffee setup make it a workspace, not just a bed.
- You prefer direct booking to an OTA experience. We reply on WhatsApp usually within the hour. You pay in Naira, direct transfer, no service fees stacked on top.
A note on service fees
The ₦75,000 in this post is our direct rate. If you find the same studio on Airbnb or Vrbo, add roughly 15% for their service fee — so a two‑night stay on Airbnb is around ₦172,500 versus ₦150,000 direct. Over a week, the difference is enough for a proper dinner in Maitama. We keep our direct rate low on purpose; guests who book direct save real money without us having to charge less on the OTAs.
Message us on WhatsApp — +234 810 370 7731 — with your dates. We usually reply within the hour and can hold the studio for you while you decide.
